reflection

if you know me at all, you'll know i like to have a good think about things on anniversary dates.  each christmas break i sit down for that think.  i consider the past year and think through how i want to change for next year.  i write out goals.

my 2013 goals have sat out on my desk all year, and i don't think ive read them once. obviously an effective reminder.  anyhow, i looked them over last week.  in my goals i have a heading called relationships, and goal number one was two words - "start over".  

the end of 2012 was tough. during december i had to intentionally cut someone out of my life, and that sucked.  over the following couple months, my work schedule then took care of cutting out most everyone else.  i was overworked, under socialized, and mentally frazzled.  a fresh start seemed in order.  

when i saw my first goal of "start over" last week it really moved me.  larger forces were at play this year, starting things over for me despite my best efforts.  i got a new employer.  i've also got some new relationships, and one really special one in the form of a lady.  she is amazing.   our relationship is built on a firm foundation. we share the same faith, but we also simply get along really well.  we haven't rushing into anything but instead have spent loads of time getting to know each other properly.  together we cook food, explore bermuda, make fun of each other's pronunciation of english, and laugh a lot.  theres lots of sass, which i need.  she gets cold hands and cold feet all the time like i do.  she also looks great in a hoodie.  its kinda magical, really.   how diametrically different december 2012 and december 2013 are!  i am a lucky man this year and a happy man.
